MarshGuard System
Coastal Land Rebuilding, Passive Marsh Regeneration
MarshGuard: “Artificial Wetland”, Where, When & How Long Needed
Controls wave-edge erosion, causes sediment deposition & creates habitat.
Devices are lightweight, easily transported & fully adjustable in-the-field. Anchors hold
with 2,000lb of attachment force. Unaffected by encasement in solid ice.
Artificial Reef Habitat: Each device contains hundreds of “slots” providing instant
high-density habitat. Fish and shrimp shelter in these slots creating a productive
heterogeneous ecosystem.
Arrays are advanced to progressively reclaim land. Reusable in new deployments.
Fire Island National Seashore (FINS) project to rebuild access road shore
USFWS & DU deployed MarshGuard to build mudflat elevation, which spartina naturally colonized.
As the mudflat is stabilized, the array will be advanced to passively generate new wetland.
