Sands Point Preserve
In October 2022, Coastal Technology Corp intervened at the historic Sands Point Preserve on the North Shore of Long Island, NY. The majestic sand cliffs of the Preserve are under immense threat—as rain and wind lash against the cliffs, the loose sand erodes faster than protective vegetation can establish.
To reverse this, CTC deployed 18 Cliff Stabilizer units over a few hours. Beach grasses and other native species were planted in the slots that the units provide, allowing these plantings to send binding root-systems into the loose sediment, preventing erosion and providing habitat for pollinators and birds.
Within a few weeks of autumn storms, we have already observed that areas protected by new plantings and CTC units have suffered far less erosion than control areas.
Giving plants a foothold
Taking advantage of our proprietary coil, CTC can deploy Cliff Stabilizer units at any angle, giving plants the necessary shelter to establish and bind loose morphologies.
